Danny Van Poppel provides a symbolic victory

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux secured another victory at Binche-Chimay-Binche (1.1, 5/10).

In temperatures below 10 degrees, the peloton split into four groups after 80 kilometres. In the first group behind the escapees, 2018 winner Danny van Poppel could count on Jonas Koch, Andrea Pasqualon and Pieter Vanspeybrouck alongside him.

A strong collective presence that proved decisive as the Dutch sprinter benefited from the control work of his teammates on the local circuit of Binche, meaning no one could thwart the outcome of a sprint. Danny Van Poppel, who knew the final kilometres inside out, pulled away on the cobbles next to the Grand Place and put in a strong performance to secure the team’s ninth win of 2021, with Andrea Pasqualon, also among the best, in tenth
